Research and Clinical Interests

Kerstin de Wit is a Thrombosis researcher. Prior research includes diagnostic testing for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in the Emergency Department, and her first research degree thesis assessed bedside tests for excluding pulmonary embolism (the MIOPED study). Her second diagnostic study focussed on novel blood biomarkers for the diagnosis of venous thrombosis in the Emergency department (the THREAD study).

Since moving to Canada, she has performed two prospective studies measuring the quality of life in acute venous thrombosis and comparing methods for measuring these health states. Her second research thesis developed an electronic method for identifying patients who were bleeding in The Ottawa Hospital.

She remains actively involved with Emergency department research on the diagnosis of venous thrombosis and the diagnosis of bleeding.
